Last race before the marathon?

Jeff (aka movelip) has convinced me to run the King of the Hill 5K in Danbury on Thursday evening. Actually, it didn't take much. He told me that he pre-registered for it, and I said, "Ok, I'll run it, too."

Tonight's run was an absolute joy. I ran some hills hard and ran some flat stretches at sub-7:00 pace...the beauty of longer runs. They can be as many workouts in one as you want.

What's everyone doing about running shoes for the marathon?

I've got well over 300 on one pair and just about 300 on the other. They both feel pretty flat.

I was thinking about the shoe issues as well. My newest pair has about 300 miles on them, and I was considering cutting back on their use until the marathon and running the race with them. They are still noticeably fresher than my pairs with closer to 500 miles on. I was also considering getting a new pair and putting 50 miles on them before the race.

Suggestions?

What about racing flats? Bad idea?

I don't know that my feet can handle racing flats, but I'd love it if they could.

I wouldn't go with racing flats for anything longer than a 10K.

I think I'm going to go with a brand spankin' new pair of Brooks Adrenaline, because that's what I've done all my training in, and I'm not a professional runner; thereby, necessitating some kind of racing shoe or whatever the professional marathoners wear--presumably, a very light and unsupportive shoe.
