NEW BROOKS ADRENALINE GTS 5S

I finally found a pair of brand new GTS 5s yesterday. I was looking at the running shoes selection at Sports Authority in North Haven, and, to my surprise, one was the GTS 5s. Not only did they have them, they were on sale for $49.99. However, they didn't have my size. (Trust me--I looked behind every shoe box in the men's shoe department.) So, I requested that they call their Waterbury location. They didn't have my size, either. I wasn't giving up. Instead of asking them to call their Milford location, I did. I called and, sure enough, they had my size. I zipped down 91 and then 95 and scooped up the elusive size 11.5 GTS 5s. That was the best fourth of July EVER.

congratulations. that sounds like a more grueling experience than a hard workout.

I don't have much to say about the heart rate watch. I can't say I really pay attention to my heart rate. Seems like a pain in the ass and I don't think I have a hard time pushing myself. Do you think it is worthwhile to do? Also, I didn't see anything about a lap timing function, which is the feature I use most often.

I think heart rate training is a good idea for those who struggle to maintain the appropriate effort. I'm not sure how much, but maybe 20 to 30 percent of one's running should be at or about 50 heartbeats per second less than max. This should be at or near lactate threshold. The more one runs at this effort, the less effort one will have to exert at whatever pace over time. Thus, faster times...adaptation. I like the idea of heart rate training, but I suspect it's a pain in the ass to keep up.
