My right leg/knee problem isn't going away. After 3 days of no running I went to do 16 miles today and barely made it 6 before I had to stop. I just spent some time reading and I'm 99% sure I've got a problem with the IT Band on my right leg. All the symptoms seem to fit. Most of what I've read suggests that I need to stop running until pain goes away. Very disappointing.

Dan, really sorry to hear this. Icing and foam rolling are key. Ice everyday and invest in a foam roller. You should be able to get through this if you treat it and perhaps cut back on volume and intensity in your running.
Also, time for a new pair of shoes? Just a thought.
Didn't you have hip and knee pain on that side when you were training for Hartford?
Running on cambered roads can contribute to this, too.
Ryan, you should be an athletic trainer or a physical therapist. Thanks for all the advice.
I'm not sure if it is the shoes. I'm definitely running with old shoes, but I've got a few pairs I change up with. I need to get a pair of racing flats or something similar to the nike Free's.
I think I might have something similar but not as severe. I can run through it. It actually gets better as the run progresses. I had a little bit of discomfort in there during my long run on Sunday and a lot the next day. I iced it that night and had no discomfort yesterday. Last night, at the gym, I used a foam roller all along the outside of my right thigh. It was a lot tighter than my left side. I didn't have any discomfort today. I call it discomfort because it's not really pain. It's hard to describe. It's more like an ache. Get your hands on a foam roller as soon as possible. I think if you loosen up the IT Band, you'll be good as new.
Dan, I see that you're still having knee issues. Another suggestion is to stay ahead of the pain by running only, say, 2.5 miles instead of 3 or more and reaggravating the knee every time out. If you stay ahead of the pain like this, eventually you should be able to build back up. Also, are you positive it's your IT Band? Injuries suck, man, I know. Hang in there.
