Anybody have any thoughts on using caffeine while running? Most GU flavors have about 20mg and I can definitely notice it, especially since my only caffeine intake comes from the occasional piece of chocolate. I've read some mixed opinions on the benefits vs. risks, so for the box of GU I just ordered I went with no caffeine flavors. On most of my previous long runs I had some caffeinated GU and today I felt like I noticed the difference without. Thoughts?

I would say that if caffeinated GU improves your runs, use it. Fuel is an individual thing. Pam Reed, the ultrarunning great, loads up on Ensure and not much else during her runs of 100+ miles. Read here: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0307/29/ltm.14.html
I am definately a fan of the caffeinated GU.
Hey Ryan,
That link didn't work.
Add this to the end of the link above in my first comment: "14.html"
Thanks, Ryan. Yep, looks like she stays well-caffeinated: red bull, mountain dew ...
No Ensure, red bull, or mt dew for me thank you. I did just order a box of caffeinated GU though. I think I'm going to go with no caffeine for at least the first 1 hour 45 minutes, then when I need the extra kick down a caffeinated one.
Does anyone know where you can get the stuff cheap? The best I can find is about $28 for a box of 24 including shipping.
Try eBay or direct from the manufacturer. You might try paragonsports.com. It's the Walmart of sporting goods stores.
That's interesting. I never thought about taking caffeine during my workout. I probably should though, my stamina is pretty low. I am thinking about getting an anti burst gym ball and adding it to my workout, I could certainly use some caffeine for that!
